What we see is a mixture of light and darkness. Light is achievable by man to an extent that it can blind you to death. Darkness may do it with cold and that that is not easily achieved. Without darkness, we can't live anywhere. I prefer darkness over light, or rather a suitable combination of both even with my eyes going bleak, day by day. I don't remember now, but I think Respected Pink Floyd said something about darkness.
